The 11th District is a jewel of the City and home to a gorgeous array of environmental treasures. Among them are: the Santa Monica Mountains, Will Rogers Beach, Dockweiler Beach, the Ballona Wetlands, and the Venice Canals. These are treasures we must commit to protect.
It is essential that we take proactive steps to ensure the security of our environment. We cannot allow our air quality to become so overrun with pollution as a result of our dependence on fossil fuels. We must reduce congestion on our streets and freeways by building an infrastructure that encourages people to walk, bike, and take public transportation more often.
In my capacity as the Chief of the City Attorney’s Environmental Justice Unit, I have prosecuted pipeline companies, metal recyclers, retailers, and other businesses for environmental crimes. As your Councilmember, I will continue to be the voice of the people’s interest and hold businesses accountable for their actions.
Special interests are looking to alter our landscape. We must prevent special interests and developers from reshaping our District to serve their profit margins. We have telecommunications companies installing cell phone towers in our Mountains — without proper notice to residents. We must also manage airline companies who are hoping to expand the runways at LAX and thereby displace current Los Angeles residents.
Fundamentally, I stand to represent the interests of the residents of our District over the interests of corporations who seek profit at our expense and at the expense of the environment. I am the only candidate with the track record and experience to stand up to corporations on behalf of the people.
